You can tell if a document is locked if it has either one of these padlock icons next to it:


- means the document is locked to you (you cannot unlock this yourself)




- means the document is locked to others (i.e. locked by you or someone in your role/company) (you can unlock this yourself)


Why is the file locked?

This can occur when you have started an Issue with that document on but not sent the Issue, or someone may have manually locked it.


Who locked the file?

Hover over/click on the padlock icon too see who it is locked to (the person(s) who are able to interact with the document). You can also see who locked it.


How to unlock the file?

  • If the file has the green padlock (you can unlock it), click on the icon, and click Unlock on the pop-out menu. 
  • If you have access to the document (eye icon) but the file also has the brown padlock, either:
    • Click on the icon, and then click the name of the user next to 'Locked by' & email them to request they unlock it.
    • Or, if it is urgent, click on the icon & email a screenshot of the pop-out menu to Amodal support to do this for you.
